What is your favorite of the DBZ movies?

I like all of them, really, but if I had to pick one, it would be Tree of Might. I use to watch that sucker all the time on VHS. I was pretty poor as a kid, so this was basically my Saiyan Saga growing up. It's got everything from that arc packed into one movie, like evil Saiyans, Oozaru, Kaioken, and more.

Edit: Doesn't have to be the original 13. Just pick your fav guys, even if its Evolution.

Return My Gohan!!(Dead Zone), The Incredible Strongest vs Strongest!(Cooler's Revenge), or Rebirth of Fusion!! Goku and Vegeta(Fusion Reborn).
EDIT: Since I'm not limited to the 13 anymore, Battle of Gods, Defiance in the Face of Despair!!(History of Trunks), and Final, Solitary Battle: The Father of the Z-Warrior Kakarotto, who Challenged Freeza(Bardock the Father of Goku). I'm sure Resurrection F will be on here too.

Movie 5 and Movie 13 are my favorites. Movie 5 had a better Freeza, decent fights, and the best English soundtrack of all the movies IMO. Movie 13 was just cool to see a giant monster f***ing s*** up, reminding me of Godzilla.

Movie 3 was pretty good.

My Dear Melancholy,

Aww man. I wanted to say "Hero Legacy" from DBGT. But if I have to choose it's Broly's first movie. I like stuff being blown up :)

Im going with tree of might (that was movie 3 yeah? Or was it a special?)

I thought it was very entertaining. I didn't think much of the re-dub, i much preferred the first English dub with the original voices. The plot was all over the place compared to the amine, but i like to watch the movies for the story within; I don't like to quarrel over its place in the amine and whether they line up or not.

My real answer: The Trunks special. Of the original 13 movies, I have to go with 12 and 13, being the huge Vegeta and Trunks fan that I am.

Yeah movie 3 is Tree of Might.

Another reason I love that one so much because the animation is great and a I love the color pallet. Everything is sort of washed out and filtered through a sepia tone view.

@Pyrus, are you referring to the original soundtrack that used Deftones for Goku's transformation? Cause I still love that moment.

Is History of Trunks an option here?
I'm not quite sure, but if it is, it is hands down my ultimate fave DBZ movie/tv special.

I love it for many reasons. For starters, Goku and Vegeta are NOT the main characters. The story is told through Trunks' perspective and I just find it refreshing to have a Z Fighter other than Goku and Vegeta being the central characters. Then, there's also the fact that History of Trunks doesn't exactly have a happy ending, it's not your typical film in the sense that there's no exact resolution to it in the end. The resolution is present in the main series and not in the movie itself, which is another reason why I like History of Trunks so much, it feels a lot more authentic for telling us a story that we initially know about through the actual show.
Obviously having the androids in action is another reason why I love this movie so much. It's no surprise by now that the twins are my fave characters in the entire DBZ universe, and History of Trunks not only showed them in their fully glory as main characters, but it also gave us a completely new perspective on them -- they're not the 17 and 18 from the main timeline, so we get a whole new look into the alternate characters of Future Trunks' time, they're the characters we know and love (same people, same looks), but they're also completely different. And the androids specially were drastically different, they were vicious and evil, whereas the androids from the main timeline are just good rebels who wanna have some fun.
Last but definitely not least, History of Trunks has by far the deepest emotional package of any DBZ film. The way it explores death, the meaning of death and our powerlessness over what is ultimately the most irreducible condition of our existence is brilliantly done.

SO YE, HIST OF TRUNKS. And if I had to choose another one it would probably be Bojack's film, just 'cause I'm a big sucker for world tournaments and I liked that Bojack's film had that.

A lot of what you said here has to do with why Movie 11 is probaly my second favorite. It's goofy, sure, but I really appreciate that Trunks, Goten and 18 are the leads. I like 18 a lot, and it was great to see her get a little of the spotlight. Even though she sort of got pushed aside towards the end, her actions propelled the story into motion. It obviously does not share the more serious aspects you brought up, but, I do like that Movie 11 takes a couple chances.

Not the most loved of the movies, but it has a special place with me. Also, 18 challenging the Bio Warriors to a battle royal is, for some reason, my favorite quote of the series.

I like Bio Broly solely because 18 is in it. It's definitely one of the weaker DBZ movies plot-wise, but getting to see 18's badass personality more in depth is a good enough reason for me to enjoy watching it personally.
